Ce groupe existe depuis déjà un bon moment (1997)...et en plus c'est un signe de qualité chez eux, car avec les années ils n'ont fait que se perfectionner dans leur style. Je connaissais déjà un split 7inch avec UNISON et un 7inch "arythmetics", donc j'étais dans l'expectative avec cet album. Et voilà que je le reçois dans ma boite aux lettres en direct de chez Moonlee Records. Label Slovène possédant une pallette de groupes tous aussi intéressant les uns que les autres.

ANALENA est enmené au chant par une très jolie voix chantée par Ana. Fille unique du groupe entourée par quatre mecs. Mais ce chant féminin alternant entre chant posé, varié, et cris maitrisé nous montre comme quoi les filles savent faire beaucoup mieux que les mecs. Le groupe possède aussi la particularité d'avoir en son sein des Croates et des Slovènes...pays autrefois unis.

Le son de ce disque est excellent. Le dosage entre son bien travaillé et son de cave est parfait. Je veux dire par là que mis à part le bon son, on arrive à garder le son énergique du groupe sans que celui-ci ne perde de sa spontanéité.

ANALENA joue un punk hardcore très mélodique. Certain dirait emocore, et je pense que c'est le plus proche. Un savant mélange dosé avec passion de mélodies parfois cinglante, parfois enivrante, parfois bruyante. Le tout mélangé au rythmiques savament dosées, et au chant superbement bien maitrisé. Comme je le disais le voyage vocal au féminin, ou l'on passe de la douceur à la puissance le tout emporté par des mélodies délicieuses. Je me régale avec cette album. Et quand je vois ça je me demande comment les gens d'ici ne donnent pas plus d'attention à ce qui se passe en Europe de l'Est.

La pochette aussi est superbe...enfin j'aime ce genre de dessin assez expressif. Et les paroles...bien écrites. Assez personnelles et plutôt poétiques. 10 titres d'une maturité certaine. On voyage de haut en bas, de gauche à droite sur cet album, sans se lasser, et arriver au bout on refait un tour...juste pour le plaisir.

Analena aus Zagreb begeistern gleich beim ersten hören. Ohne die CD gleich in irgendwelche Schubladen stecken zu wollen, was bei der CD auch gar nicht so klappt. Könnte man schon sagen, dass es sich um tollen Emocore handelt. Carbon Based ist das zweite Release der Band. In der Platte steckt viel Herzblut drin und das merkt man auch gleich. Die Platte haben sie komplett in Eigenregie aufgenommen. Der Begriff Analena ist sehr alt und bedeutet like/by the fire. Wie schon oben gesagt kommt die Band aus Kroatien und dort ist es ja mit der Musikszene nicht so einfach, gerade auch wegen der schlechten Infrastruktur in diesem Land. Aber Analena haben sich durchgebissen und das ist auch gut so. Die Vielseitigkeit der CD wird vor allem durch die Stimme von Sängerin Ana geprägt. Der nämlich zwischen ruhig und melodiös bis zu derben Geschrei hin und her wechselt. Bei dem ruhigen Gesang kann man die Stimme mit der Sängerin von Sunday Inn vergleichen. Sängerin Ana singt zwar nicht ganz so weich aber es ist vergleichbar. Nicht nur die Stimme sondern auch die abwechslungsreiche Musik macht das ganze gut. Immer wieder findet man sanfte Melodien dann aber wieder mal laute eckige Songstrukturen. Die 11 Songs gehen ca. 35 Minuten und sind deshalb nicht so kurz aber auch nicht so lang. Sicher hat man das irgendwo schon einmal gehört und es ist jetzt auch nichts super Neues aber schon ganz nett. Für Moonlee Records ist dies das erste Release.

Ce disque a beaucoup traîné dans ma platine. Simple, modeste, émotionnel, mais vraiment d'une grande beauté musicale. Signé sur le label slovène Moonlee records, les croates de Analena nous balance un emo/screamo sincère et dévoué, avec un coté écorché vif qui séduira les amateurs du genre. Le visuel (plutôt étrange) attirant et la bonne production du disque sont déjà des éléments attracteurs quand à la bonne tenue du disque. Musicalement, on ne traîne pas loin d'un Envy ou d'un 1000 travels of jawaharlal, mélange de mélodies et de longues tirades plaintives et hurlées. La particularité du combo de l'est, c'est la présence d'une chanteuse, qui s'en sort d'ailleurs brillamment dans toutes ses lignes de chant. Pour tous le reste, je ne saurai recommandé ce disque pour tous les amateurs du genre "qui crie", ne cautionnez pas le fait que les groupes sont inférieurs parce qu'il viennent de pays ou la culture Hardcore n'est pas très développé. Ce n'est absolument pas justifié (du moins pour moi) et Analena en est le parfait exemple...

Aus Zagreb stammen Analena und "Carbon Based" ist bereits das zweite Album der seit 1997 aktiven Hardcore-Truppe. Das neue Album hat die Band mit Hilfe einer befreundeten Band selbst aufgenommen und produziert, was ihnen gut gelungen ist. Musikalisch erfinden sie das Rad sicher nicht neu. Die Hardcore-Elemente überwiegen zwar, manch Song geht aber auch locker als Punkrock durch. So wechseln auch Analena zwischen schönen Melodien und aggressiven Rhythmen. Die wirkliche Besonderheit ist ihre Frontfrau Ana, die richtig tough shouten kann und dann auch nicht von ihrem männlichen Kollegen zu unterscheiden ist. Sie kann aber auch ganz normal singen und ist dann klar als weiblich zu identifizieren. Durch die geballte Power der Band, die spürbar in den Songs steckt, und ihre abwechslungsreich singende Frontfrau macht "Carbon Based" einfach Spaß. Eine empfehlenswerte Platte einer Band, die man hoffentlich auch öfters live in Westeuropa begrüßen darf.

Ou l incapacité à discerner ce qu on sait faire et ce qu on ne sait pas faire. Les croates d Analena reviennent (apres un album et leur excellent split avec Sensual Love) sur le label slovène Moonlee records, à la suite de sept années d existence, cela remonte à loin et c est justement vers les années 90 qu il faut porter le regard pour bien estimer leur musique, influencée par l emo old-school, on pense à Ivich, à Secretos del Corazon, pour la fraicheur et la naïveté, apparentes en tout cas, de la musique, le premier morceau emballe, puis, et c est un "puis" mais ce devrait etre un "mais", le chant dérive.

Le chant donc, disions-nous. Chant (féminin) auparavant hurlé, ultra écorché, s essaie ici à différentes variations qui ressemblent à s y méprendre à une superbe faute de gout, le chant crié étant toujours aussi saisissant, presque parfait alors que les parties littéralement chantées sombrent dans une niaiserie sans précédent, alors il faut passer outre, fermer nos tympans le temps que ces lignes ignorantes, toutes joyeuses et toutes hors-sujet cessent. L oreille vient alors se poser sur la musique, lumineuse, classique certes, sur le son excellent, sur les guitares quelque part au-dessus du lot. Et dès que le chant ne s égare plus, on empile les raisons d apprécier ce "Carbon based", à condition d oublier les précédents, à condition de pardonner certaines maladroitesses, ah, le pardon, la bêtise, monumentale.

Hot fuckin' damn! I gotta say, this Moonlee Records label is onto some hot shit! I've yet to be disappointed by any of their bands, and a couple of ‘em have really impressed me. Add Analena to that list above all. The band is based in Croatia, but the members hail from both Croatia and Slovenia. Their approach is one rooted in screamo/indie rock kind of stuff, but it's definitely more diverse and intriguing than most of what those classifications would indicate. For one thing, the lead female vocals work excellently with the backing male vocals, both offering up a wide variety of approaches from different styles of screaming and yelling to fluid singing, speaking, shouting, etc. The music is also all over the place from jangly chords and softer clean passages to frantic discordance, intense melodies, and a little bit of added heaviness as well. The most important thing to focus on though is that the songwriting is fucking excellent. Seriously, I cannot stress to you enough that anyone who listens to this general style should check this band out immediately. They combine their influences effortlessly and are actually able to create song structures that feel linear and cohesive as well as energetic and catchy – yes, that's right. They're actually able to make layers of screaming, discordance, and subdued melody come across as pretty damn catchy at times. They've definitely harnessed that powerful sense of urgency that seems so rare to me these days with this general niche of music. There's a ton of interaction going on between different guitar lines and the bass parts, and the vocal tradeoffs add to that, especially when you consider how effective the musical backbone is – because they're definitely building on some of the traditional foundations of a few classic bands here, but it's morphed into something that's more their own. "Carbon Based Organisms" kicks things off right away with one of the most immediately explosive and powerful compositions that perfectly exemplifies the wide range of styles that the band has to offer. "Notturno" opens a little softer both musically and vocally and kind of carries with it a more openly melodic and flowing sensibility even when the distortion and harsher vocals kick in, while the faster and more upbeat "Spilt Milk" even has a pop-punk kind of element at work!? Very unexpected… but still a great song, you know? It fits. "In Theory and Practice" is another of my favorites. The chorus is just so fucking intense it hits like a ton of bricks, perfectly blending melody and fierce screaming that really feels sincere and genuine. Great stuff. "Rainy Night in Warsaw" is a raw instrumental that closes the disc with some acoustic instrumentation (not necessarily guitars, I'm not sure) and some spoken samples that I'm guessing are in Polish? A nice ending, for sure. The sound quality is excellent, too. That's another thing that has impressed me about these bands coming from Moonlee Records: They've all got really solid recordings. I don't know how they do it, but I ain't complaining. Things are a little on the gritty side with this one but that's because there's a ton of layering and they're using a lot of interesting distorted textures that are thick and have a ruggedness to ‘em without coming across as too heavy. The bass is prominent in the mix and helps add low-end, and the guitars are somehow thick and distorted while still having a ringing edge that makes them sound a little airier than you might expect. The percussion sounds totally natural, the vocals never overpower the mix no matter how incendiary they become, etc. They've definitely done well for themselves. It's a busy mix yet it still sounds intentional and efficient. The layout looks nice and consists largely of painted imagery with bright colors and faux handwritten type. The lyrics are your usual explorations of personal issues and the generally tumultuous nature of life, but I actually find the content to be fitting of the music – a little bitter, a little hopeful, not overdramatic, etc. "Paved with good intentions, still, the world is grey. We need dream amplifiers to make it louder. So they can feel it in their bones. After that count to 10 and all your wishes will come true." God damn, seriously, I'll go ahead and cap it off with one of my typically over the top proclamations and say flat out that if you listen to any music of this general nature and don't like this CD, you are a complete fucking moron with absolutely no sense or taste whatsoever, and you have no right to listen to music. Period. I mean, shit, I don't even listen to that much of this stuff and I'm flipping out over this, I love it. Buy this now. This band is fucking awesome.

Wenn es schwer fällt, Musik in Worte zu fassen kann dies durchaus für die Faszination eines Albums sprechen, welches einem solche Probleme bereitet. ANALENA aus Zagreb sind nicht nur schwer zu beschreiben, weil sie in keiner dieser zig Schubladen zuhause sind, sondern auch weil sie nicht nur hier ein wenig probieren und dort stiebitzen, vielmehr eine Fusion schaffen, die sich dann einfach wieder Punk nennen darf.

Die Heterogenität von ANALENA, welche sich im neuen Album erst so richtig austoben kann und kein einziges mal zu einem wilden Stilmix verkommt, findet ihren prägnantesten Niederschlag bei der Sängerin.

Zuckersüße Umgarnungsversuche wechseln sich mit aggressiven Schreipassagen ab, betont lässig und emotional aufreibend, beruhigend und aufpeitschend. Aber jetzt nicht aufhören zu lesen, schließlich werden die Zwischentöne nicht vernachlässigt, es handelt sich nicht um eine weitere Screamo-Kapelle.

Die Gitarrenarbeit fußt auf dem soliden Bass-Schlagzeug-Gerüst und folgt ähnlich verschlungenen Wegen wie der Gesang, versteift sich aber nicht auf eine reine Begleitung und Untermalung. Auch hier ist ein ausdifferenziertes Songwriting anzutreffen, das im Gegensatz zum letzten Release noch deutlich angezogen hat.

ANALENA bedeutet übrigens soviel wie "Like/by fire" und passt somit hervorragend zur Musik der Kroaten.

This fully-fledged album is totally richer that it could be as good as any Yage, or Dahlia Seed, or Anomie work. At first, I'm not really liking it, but as time goes, this really grows in me. The echos of the sound make me shivering. I play this CD everyday since I got it and I'm never get tired of it. Emotional hardcore powered angst driven with sincerity, sensitivity, passionate build up all around "Carbon Based". Analena prove themselves more than capable of fervent melodic intensity frequently accompanied by screamo type female vocalist with the undeniable promisingly deep shaft of creativity they commands throughout this rounded, dark brooding laboured melodrama of memories and dreams, which from there they write and reflect on life and just suck it all in positively. Layout wise it is good looking and that's all that matters which makes great record unforgetable. The first track is a total perfect of "emocore" on offer. And then their power grows steadily as the songs develops emotionally, emotional, my kingdom for an emotional hardcore, until "Spilt Milk" came onto my stereo indicates that this divine madness could be the most rocking track on this album, as the band pump it out more and more blasts of non-stop "emocore" assault. Analena is definitely a band to watch out, and I can only wish em luck, and hope that even if their musical delivery bristles with treble-led aggression, the band will remain true to itself. Musical shoplifters are everywhere which is a dime a dozen in the HC/Punk scene, and are usually critically trend-followers. Once they knew what they has before aren't as exciting as before, they changes its shape for their own capitalist means. Admit it, we have seen a lot of fucking hopeless bands like this, and if you think I'm full of shit, fuck you!

What's old becomes new again when it comes from someplace different.

I'm not exactly sure how that statement applies to this album from the Croatian band Analena, but it's a good summary of why bands from places in the world far from my own so often forge a special place in my heart. And it's true enough that there's both old and new in Analena, in the sense that their roots are deep but their innovations are their own.

Fronted by a vocalist coincidentally named Ana, Analena play an abrasive form of punk rock influenced by the classics of hardcore and emo. Not to overlook the abundance of musical merit of "Carbon Based", Ana's vocal performance is the most remarkable trait to be found here. She puts on an exhibition of emotional release, with emocore agitation rarely attriubuted to her gender. Her screaming is like a clash between Snapcase and Submission Hold, while the band backing her up is true to the form of roots-emo bands like Funeral Diner and the Shivering.

As is frequently the case with a traditionally-minded emo band, there's a richly melodic vein circulating throughout the music, but it's well-hidden beneath dense layers courseness and calousness. This type of musical execution I associate with Planes Mistaken For Stars; it's a simutaneously desolate and consoling musical experience, a characteristic pretty unique to the emo genre.

There's something special coming out of the hearts and minds of these Croatians (and one Slovenian), and it's well worth hearing what they have to say.

I reviewed a 7" of Analena some years ago, and I was really happy to get to know this band, as I somehow found them exceptional on their own. Missing them on tour and not hearing about them for some time made me losing trace of this band a little bit, and therefore I am happy that their new effort reached my desk some days ago. Coming from Croatia, Analena is a female fronted 5-piece that play emotional hardcore and punk full of melodies as well as screams. The nice balance they keep throughout the record between rather angry parts, where the female singer screams (really intense vocals, often even supported by a male shouter in the background) and really melodic, sung passages is nothing but great. I felt instantly warm with this release, some songs even developed some kind of an earwig even after only 2 runs. Within their songs, they take elements from many different sub genres of our world: Some good old fashioned emocore (no, not the Jimmy Eat World thing...), some rough punk elements, some ideas from modern screamo, post-hardcore, plus even some solid alternative rock here and there. One of the best songs to show this is "work in progress", with a sweet mid tempo verse and melodic vocals, which melt into a great screamed chorus with several layers of vocals and more agression. The end gets even danceable, with even more screams, aways creating something like a small hymn - really well done. Overall, the diversification is what makes this one so interesting, many songs vary among each other, and even within the songs itself, the step from a melodic, rocking beat to a hectic, driving screamo part is often only a second away. Nice work on the instruments and interesting, poppy interludes like the beginning of "Notturno" add more color to their works – eventhough even this song is almost ripped apart with a hectic, driving chorus. Although this is somehow screamo, I have not felt that particular whiny element I heard so often in that genre. Although Analena are quite full of anger and bust out quite a loud album here, I felt a positive foundation most of the time. Maybe, the melodies of the guitars are just to beautiful to feel bad or something.

Production is rough, but fits perfectly into their music, as well as the nice artwork. If I had to chose from one of the two Monlee releases for this update, I’d definitively chose Analena, as they are so interesting and unique that you simply need to like them.

Super! Zwei Jahre nach der Split mit Sensual Love, die damals als Kollaboration vom österreichischen Interstellar Records und deutsch-kroatischem Get Off Records erschienen war, sind Analena aus Zagreb mit ihrem zweiten Album "Carbon Based" zurück, diesmal dann auf dem ganz frisch gegründeten, slowenischen Moonlee Label, dessen erster Release das hier überhaupt ist. Und es ist ein verdammt guter! Wer befürchtet hat, dass sich Analena nach längerer Funkstille (zumindest hätte man hier bei uns diesen Eindruck bekommen können), gar nicht mehr zurückmelden würden, liegt völlig daneben, wie auch eingangs gleich das dazugehörige Info verlauten lässt: "Analena was born in the fall of 1997 and decided to exist as a band worthy of its name. The term 'Analena' comes from the ancient Sanskrit, and translates as 'like/by the fire'. Too many great bands from this area succumbed to lack of enthusiasm, shortage of record labels and 'infrastructure' in general, and last but not least, apathy. The members of Analena decided to be a different kind of band, the one that would keep the fire alive.” Und all diese hohen Ansprüche, die sie mit dieser Herangehensweise an sich selber stellen, erfüllt "Carbon Based" vollauf. Aufgenommen wurde komplett in Eigenregie im Kozmo Studio in Zagreb mit ein wenig Unterstützung ihrer Labelmates von Lunar, und dass in dieser Platte eine Menge Arbeit und eine noch viel größere Herzblut steckt, ist unüberhörbar. Was ihren Sound an sich angeht, damit finden sich Analena irgendwo zwischen ganz unterschiedlichen Stühlen wieder, das wissen sie selbst ganz genau, und exakt das ist es auch, was "Carbon Based" nicht zu einer weiteren, ganz okayen Platte macht, sondern sie aus der Masse weit herausragen lässt: "Although based in Zagreb, Croatia and rooted in punk rock ethos, Analena as a band was willing and determined to shatter many boundaries from the very beginning. It is symbolic that members of the band come from two countries, Croatia and Slovenia, and it comes as no surprise that during these 7 years neither listeners nor critics were able to strictly define and label their sound. In the case of this band, one man's hardcore is another man's noise is another man's punk. Diverse but steady, from bittersweet melodies and blistering hooks to pummelling and aggressive rhythms, Analena covers all the bases.” Ohne irgendein Mitglied dieser Band, die vom eigenen Selbstverständnis her ganz klar als Kollektiv agiert und auch so wahrgenommen werden will, besonders in den Vordergrund stellen zu wollen, muss man nichtsdestotrotz Sängerin Ana hervorheben, die Analena mit ihrem Gesang, der permanent zwischen clean/schön und Geschrei/auch schön hin- und herwechselt, den ganz besonderen Stempel aufdrückt, den andere Bands nicht haben. Zumal man bei ihnen nie das Gefühl hat, ein paar Typen machen die Musik und irgendein bühnengeiles Chick gibt die Sängerin. Das mag bei 99 von 100 (Rock-) Bands so sein, Analena sind dann eben einfach die eine Ausnahme. Aber auch mit den Songs und der Musik von "Carbon Based" ist ihnen etwas ganz Besonderes gelungen: der Sound ist meist recht kantig, aber wunderbar klar und transparent, ohne dabei kalt oder steril zu klingen. Zwischen die noisy-eckigen Songstrukturen schleichen sich dennoch immer wieder wunderschöne, ganz unaufdringliche Melodien (was vor allem der sehr abwechslungsreichen Gitarrenarbeit zu verdanken ist), die Analena andererseits und in Verbindung mit dem variablen Gesangsstil ihrer Sängerin beinahe schon ein poppiges Feeling verleihen. Das Ganze nur eben im Punk-Gewand und keine Spur glatt gelutscht und künstlich auf "supergefällig" getrimmt, sondern einfach super, so wie es ist. Mit Songs wie u.a. "Dream amplifiers" oder "Wiederholungszwang" (Anm.: nur der Songtitel ist deutsch) sind Analena außerdem so was von "emo", ohne "Emo" zu sein, dass es einem bisweilen heiß und kalt den Rücken runterlaufen kann. Dass man dieses Wort angesichts dieser Band aber besser nicht verwenden sollte, dazu noch Folgende: "'Carbon Based' is a statement by a smart and mature band, an honest expression of determination and passion in full force. Analena follows its own instinct by merging charming melodies with intricate and shimmering rhythmic relentlessness. Stunning and flawless instrumentation combined with witty and poetic slogan-free lyrics takes care of the rest.” Stimmt alles. Wie gut Analena sind, dazu noch ein klitzekleines, abschließendes Beispiel: auf moonleerecords.com kann man sich einen Analena-Videofile runterladen zu einem Interview, das im kroatischen Musikfernsehen gelaufen ist. Natürlich ist alles auf Kroatisch, ich habe kein Wort von dem verstanden, was gesprochen wird, und trotzdem fand ich das Interview super, einfach weil man auch so einen Eindruck bekommt, dass diese Band mit vollem Einsatz und Können bei der Sache, und abgesehen davon auch noch ohne Ende sympathisch wirkt. Letzteres ist eigentlich für mich kein Kriterium, wenn es um Bands und ihre Musik geht, aber in diesem Fall doch irgendwie schon. Super Platte, super Band, glücklich darf sich jeder schätzen, der/die davon Wind bekommt, denn natürlich ist das hier eine totale Undergroundangelegenheit und man wird schon eine Weile suchen müssen, um das gute Stück irgendwo aufzutreiben. Hrvatska, tai siis tuttavallisemmin Kroatia, siinä maa, josta Analena tulee ja kaupunki on Zagreb. 1997 perustettu yhtye on kotimaassaan rajojen rikkoja, niin musiikillisesti kuin konkreettisestikin. Yhtyeessä on jäseniä sekä Kroatiasta, että Sloveniasta. Musiikillinen puoli yhdistelee sen verran onnistuneesti alternativerokkia ja punkhenkisyyttä, ettei yhtyettä oikein voi edes luokitella minkään genren alle. Ja siitäkös taas osa ihmisistä riemastuu.

Soundillisesti tuli ensimmäisenä mieleen loistava Pretty Girls Make Graves, joka on istutettu punkin esikouluun seesteisemmän alternativen sijaan. Tai kenties sen jälkeen. Avausraita Carboon Based Organism on vihainen rokkispala, joka alkaa mukavalla riffillä ja laulaja Anan vihaisella, mutta samalla utuisella lauluosuudella. Ja kyllä, Ana on tyttö, vaikka ensiksi hieman hämäännyin, että onkohan kyseessä nyt tyttö vaiko poika. Kappale koostuu hitaammista ja nopeammista osuuksista, sekä väliosista, jotka todella ovat nimensä mukaisesti siitä välimaastosta. Vokaaleissa on se huono puoli, että sanoista on ilman niiden samanaikaista lukemista välillä heikkoa saada selkoa. Sanoitukset koostuvat lähinnä omista kokemuksista ja unelmista. Mukana ei ole julistamista taikka politikointia, vaikka moni saattaisi ensiajattelemalla niin luulla. Tuon väittämän perustan suoraan yhtyeen alkuperään.

Anan laulutyyli muistuttaa erittäin paljon ihanaista, mainitsemani Pretty Girls Make Gravesin, laulaja Andrea Zollon tyyliä. Tosin Andrean pehmeys ja eteerisyys on kadoksissa, vaikka kyllä siitä paikoitellen saadaan pilkahduksia esiin kuten mukavalla Work In Progressilla. Kappale alkaa rauhallisemmalla otteella, kunnes innostutaan hieman lisäämään tempoa ja sitten on taas väliosassa rauhallisuuden vuoro. Kitarat ovat koko kappaleen ajan vihaisella ja rummut antavat napakkaa tukea.

En oikeastaan pysty nimeämään yhtäkään täytekappaletta albumilta. Sen verran onnistuneita sävellystyötä on tehty albumin kanssa. Ainoastaan Anan paikoittain esiin tuleva angstinen laulutyyli vaatii totuttelua, mutta kun siihen on tottunut, on kuuntelukokemus palkitseva. Parhaimpina raitoina voisin poimia, noiden mainitsemieni lisäksi, Wiederholungszwang, Split Milk ja In Theory And Practice. Mikäli yhtye olisi kotoisin ison veden takaa tai Englannista, niin olisi suosiossa pitelemistä. Sen verran tiukkaa tavaraa Analena tarjoaa. Kyllä tällä pyyhitään ensin franzferdinaneilla ja killersseillä pölyt Kroatina betoneilta ja lopuksi vielä yhtyeen jäsenten takapuolet.

Der Name von Analena kommt aus dem Sanskrit und heißt so viel wie "wie das Feuer" oder so ähnlich. Ein Schelm wer bei dem Namen anderes denkt... Analena gefallen mir richtig gut, ich war überrascht. Das liegt sicher an der super – druckvoll singenden und variantionsreich schreienden Sängerin, die wirklich viel ausmacht von "Carbon Based". Analena kommen aus Zagreb, Kroatien und sind schon richtig lange dabei, nämlich seit 1997. Ich meine mich auch dunkel daran zu erinnern, dass ich die Band irgendwo mal live als Vorband gesehen habe... Außerdem kommen ursprünglich einige der Band Mitglieder aus Slovenien, wo auch Moonlee Records beheimatet ist. Also "Carbon Based" ist rockender Hardcore mit vielen Variationen, Melodien die weitgehend von der melodischen Gittare und Ana der Sängerin getragen werden. Anhören, kaufen... was weiß ich. -

Slovensko-hrvaška zasedba Analena je eden tistih, danes tudi v svetu redkih, pravih undergrund bendov. Na svojem drugem albumu Carbon Based bend ohranja vso podzemno ostrino in eksplozivnost, hkrati pa deluje ultra moderno. Njihova glasba izvira iz post-hardocora, emo-core miselnosti ter spačenosti, ki jo je v alternative rock prinesel grunge. Kljub temu pa Analena še zdaleč niso kakšen klon teh zvrsti. Njihova glasba je v bistvu ultra-težek, hrupen, sila napadalen, a hkrati prefinjen, sodobni alternative rock, ki mu ne manjka niti modernih nu-paranj. Skupina praši izjemne riffe in ustvarja čudovito ritmiko, svoje pa dodaja še odlična pevka Ana, ki ji ponekod pomagajo tudi moški vokali. Njihova glasba je polna izvrstnih detajlov, čudovitih poigravanj z melodijami ter neprestanih menjav atmosfere. Morda tisto najbolj privlačno v njihovi glasbi pa je izjemo dobro postavljeno razmerje med prvinskimi alternative rock in punk raziskovanji oziroma maličenji ter sila sodobnimi nu-rock klišeji, ki pa pri Analeni zvenijo neverjetno sveže in drugačno.

Čeravno so Analena orto-kitarski in nažigaški bend, pa v je njihovi glasbi zaslediti tudi obilico liričnih pasaž, skoraj darkerske atmosfere, roots rock kantavtorstva in celo nekaj art rock blišča. Carbon Based kljub svojim izrazito underground gverilskim izvorom deluje kot visoko-proračunski in za povrh še nesramno super-moderen, skoraj trendy alternative album. Analena definitivno imajo univerzalno alternative vibracijo in zato niti ne preseneča, da jih bolje poznajo po Evropi, kot pa na Balkanu. Pa še nekaj, Analena so eden redkih alternative bendov, katerih drža in glasbeni izraz funkcionira tako v majhnih klubih, kot tudi na velikih stadionih. Carbon Based je odličen album in upati je, da bomo ta sila zanimiv bend kdaj videli tudi na velikih odrih festivalov.

Oltre l'Italia ci sono nazioni che grazie al loro nome non ti portano fino infondo, fino alle loro culture, oltre l'Italia ci sono paesi che nascondono la propria bellezza induttiva, la propria bellezza normalizzata, oltre la nostra nazione ci sono intere grida che si sentono grandi, che si sentono pronte, e che vorrebbero inoltrarsi fino a noi, fino ai soliti confini ideali della mente, dell'espressione, dell'onnipotenza, oltre la nostra penisola a volte c'è l'immenso, e molto spesso neanche ce ne accorgiamo, immenso che rettifica vecchie glorie passate, e vecchi attriti normalizzati, e che il tempo non ha portato via. La Slovenia è ad un passo da noi, e spesso e volentieri nemmeno lo sappiamo, o forse peggio facciamo finta di non sapere, Slovenia che in questo caso ci regala spontaneamente un pacco dono del tutto particolare, del tutto privilegiato, un pacco dono che sa di musica relativamente conosciuta, ma rielaborata in discreto assioma, in "buonezza" laterale. Analena è il nome di questa band del tutto speciale, è il nome di una rappresentazione che parla normale ma in varie distanze, che normalizza tutto con la sua espressione rudimentale, espressione che inoltra la propria adolescenza a distanze diversificate, a orizzonti migliori. Un impermeabile sensazione che validamente porta avanti un progetto candito in particolar modo, un progetto come detto poco riconosciuto, ma che pur sempre deteriora la propria immagine in qualche cosa di riconoscente, in qualche cosa di enormemente belligerante. Emocore screamo che sa di primavera estiva, un sound che ramifica le proprie oppressioni in desolanti e turbolenti nostalgie passate, nostalgie al di sotto di ogni glaciale possibilità purificata. Nulla di nuovo tranne l'originalità, nulla di nuovo tranne la timidezza positiva di un complesso complessato dal vento, emanato dal cuore, nulla di nuovo tranne tutto, tranne la grande prova di una cosiddetta risonanza pilotata, volta al non successo, ma al decadimento voluto e sognato. Esclamazioni durevoli, portano l'intero scompartimento sonoro, a viaggianti sogni terrestri, che risultano alla lunga poco compatti e sicuri, ma notevolmente pieni di vita e reattività. "Carbon Based", nonostante la sua semplicità di base, riesce potenzialmente a ricostruire nuove appassionanti verità, nuove esternazioni udibili, riesce come pochi ormai sanno fare, a creare la suspance retrograda che di per se rappresenta l'immenso vivere. Una prova provata dai massimi livelli, che con il tempo perplesso enormemente migliorerà.

Wow! After LUNAR and DON’T MESS WITH TEXAS here comes another great release from Moonlee Records. ANALENA brings us excellent post-hardcore mixed up with punk und indie influences. The band was born in 1997 in Zagreb/Croatia and maybe someone of you knows them, because they toured Europe a few times. After their Debut LP "Arythmetics" and a split with SENSUAL LOVE there are now back with there brand new LP "Carbon Based". Ten dynamic songs full of energy, that's what you will find on this CD. The songs are very varied and that's because Ana, the singer, switches perfectly from singing to screaming. In some songs ("Carbon Based Organisms") they sound like Post-Hardcore heroes ANATOMY FOR A GHOST, sometimes like THURSDAY, just with a female voice. My personal favourite is song number two, called "Dream Amplifiers". It sounds a bit like Thursday in the beginning, but the best is the clear voice of Ana. The song is not as fast as the over ones, but has a lot of energy. "Work in progress" is also a great title. This CD was a big surprise for me. Hope to see them live.

The concept of filling personal experiences, visions and fears into punk/core/noise-songs isn't new, but if filled with emotionality (it is hard to write down the word emotion nowadays without getting the wrong connotations) and energy it is still exciting and enriching. This might make Analena hippies in the eyes of "real" punks, y'know those with the spikes, the tattoos and the beer-breath, but this is also what makes "carbon based" such a good record. You might think you have heard this kind of music a lot and you might be reminded of a long list of bands that haven't been around since even before Analena started to make music in 1997, but you'll also be infused with their way of rocking out, of screaming and kicking against the tribulations of everyday life and the capitalist system by laying bare their inner souls, thoughts and dreams before you. Such openness and intensity can only be judged positively.

A new record label with a curious name and logo (a karate chopping lemon that is also part time rockabilly?? Maybe some sort of wordplay – Lee Moon > lemon – or something? Am I close? ) from Slovenia starting off with one of the longest lasting hardcore/punk/somethingelse-bands from Croatia, the great Analena. It might be futile to say, but this label proves that the countries of former Yugoslavia are not a single step behind the so called western nations, or at least Austria, as far as cool bands that play great music are concerned. Or maybe it is just this label taking the crème of the crop and I never get to hear the rest. Well, anyway. I have here the first three releases on this label and they are all well worth checking out, so go ahead and look for the reviews of Lunar and Don't mess with Texas. But this one here will be the only review I'll be talking about the label because for one, I don't like to repeat myself too much, and second, you should be reading all reviews anyway. So there. These three bands are very different (hc/punk vs. postrock) but all of them plus the label seem to adhere to the very well received punkrock-ethos aka a mixture of DIY, global friendship-networks, Fuck the system and trying to do business without doing business. Which gives them bonus points right from the beginning. More bonus points can be shoved in for being the only label I know that still releases their records on cassettes as well. (Do you remember that - tapes? That was the best thing before burning CD-Roms became a major sport among teenagers.)

"Carbon based" is Analena's second full length album. Their last release was a split-10" with Austrian noise-rockers Sensual Love on Interstellar records (who I've heard nothing off in the last months I suddenly realize. I hope the title of this 10" "It's never too late to split up" hasn't come true.)

Analena might be the best known band from Croatia, due to their constant touring and willingness to play anywhere at anytime. Musically, they fall right between the chairs of emotional, political hardcore and aggressive, psychotic indierock. (Falling between the chairs musically is another thing we at Cracked like a lot.) Back in the day, when bands like Bad Trip and Yuppiecide still existed, we used to call this Psych-Core or even Angst-core, which doesn't fit Analena really, because there is no heavy dose of nihilism, depression and phobia within these songs. They are emotional, heavily banging in slow(er) tempo and loud as they should be, but they seem to have an edge of positive thinking and hope for the future in them amidst all mayhem and disorder. Like the cover, where those angry looking people run out of the burning city into what might be a coach or trainwagon, but they are all painted in green and yellow, with a sun coming up from the bottom (??) which gives the whole startling and aggressive picture a tonality of hope and freedom.

Moreover, the lyrics are full of "dream amplifiers" and "the air .. filled with possibibilities" and other ideas that hint at a possibly brighter future ahead. Of course, with their roots in punkrock there are the expected songs about the cruelty against regular people and workers of modern life, anti-war songs and how mankind destroys itself and the world, but Analena have totally skipped the sloganeering and crude common places in favour if very personal lyrics that tend towards the dreamlike and cryptic at times. And usually they'll have an element that'll snap you right back into (their) reality when about to fly off into stream of consciousness-associating.

The songs are full of melodies that you can find if you get through all the noisy guitars and harsh arrangements, as on the great "Spilt Milk" with its double harmonic singing, various parts of dynamic de-tension and releases. Later on in the album, they take the tension and full-force heaviness back a little and give themselves some time to breathe, e.g. on "From Automatic to Manual". Still, Ana the singer keeps on screaming and wailing that I get afraid her voice might give up during the course of the album. Okay, I know it won't happen, but I wonder how her voice keeps up during a longer tour with a show every night. Well, I hope I can see that soon, when they come to Vienna to play here. In the meantime, I'll guess "carbon based" stays close to my stereo.

Rekoh sam sebi kako je ovaj album potencijalni hit iz dva razloga. Prvi je onaj koji se tiče kvalitete samog benda te njihove izvođačke sposobnosti, drugi su pjesme "Work in progress" te "Split milk". O prvom razlogu vam neću pisati jer se zaista zna tko je Analena i što oni rade, koliko su pjesama dosada snimili i što su izdali. Nevjerojatno dobar "kliše" emo-a i pop punk rocka krasi gore navedene pjesme što je u mojim očima i ušima pobudilo dodatni interes za ovaj bend pošto sam odavno već probavio dva albuma benda "the get up kids" koja sam obožavao. Doza melodičnosti te pjevnosti pomješana sa melankoničnim gitarama i vrištećim glasom na refrenima ipak daje prepoznatljiv Analenin štimung svemu tome. Kreće gitara na ljevom zvučniku, zatim druga na desnom, pa svi zajedno uključujući i vokal... dalje nisam uspio analizirati pjesmu jer čovjek jednostavno utone u glazbu... cijela ta priča oko naizgled nemaštovitih pjesama daje Analeni jednu novu dimenziju u kojoj se oni otvaraju prema slušatelju, daju mu na znanje da su oni tu zbog njega, pjevaj, vrišti, đuskaj, skači... Produkcijski je ovaj album odrađen veoma dobro, no nekako sam očekivao malo bolji cover, mislim, cover je prekrasan no nekako je presiromašan. Dakle, ako još nemate ovaj CD, naručite ga i dobro ga preslušajte, al ako ga već imate, mislim da je zaslužio još koje preslušavanje te se nadam da će do vas doprijeti barem onoliko koliko se meni svidio.

This second full length record by the Croation Analena is one solid piece of well-crafted emotional hardcore. They don't make'm like this anymore (well, sometimes they do... Whatever). It was a pleasant surprise to get this record for review though! I love the fragile character of their melodic hardcore with a very emotional drive. The good female cocals are an extra part in that fragile atmosphere. Analena remind me of those older UK-based emocore outfits that Subjugation used to release. A combination of the 90ties emocore sound mixed with more indie rock influences. Dual vocals sometimes and when the girl shouts she reminds me of our local band The Playmobil Assassins (rip). "carbon based" is very good record and you can also get this on 12"

Als ich sah, dass ich es mal wieder mit Moonlee Records zu tun habe, hatte ich zuerst die große Befürchtung, dass mal wieder ein Frontalangriff auf mein ach so dünnes Nervengewand stattfindet.

Jedoch weit gefehlt... Mit Analena haben wir etwas für Freunde des hysterischen Krawalls und des absoluten Irrsinns. Also für mich... Gut zu beschreiben als ein bunter Salat aus Punk, Noise und Hardcore, leider mit einem Tick zu viel Hardcore, aber noch im erträglichen Maße.

Und was ist da am Gesang los? Es wird geschrien, gezetert, und um das Ganze noch verrückter zu gestalten werden zwischendrin liebliche Melodien gesäuselt. Ein wahrlich wildes Ding.

Jetzt noch bitte mehr Gewicht auf den Gesang legen und alles ist perfekt. Denn leider wurde der etwas mager aufgenommen, ist er doch für eine Frau schon sehr gewaltig und das verdient es, mehr betont zu werden.

From Zagreb, Croatia comes this band called Analena that appears to be around since 1997. Their latest effort "Carbon Based" got in my hands and I'm always curious about bands coming from that part of Europe. The record label Moonlee is doing a positive job by releasing and supporting good bands from Croatia. Check Moonlee Records for other releases from bands like Lunar and Don't Mess With Texas (reviewed earlier this month).

Analena has hardcore/punk roots and that audible. But they strongly mix up different elements from all kinds of (sub)styles. I've been listening to this record for several times and it definitely took me a while before it actually started to grow on me. I liked it better after a few weeks. Analena is a band that can be described as a female fronted emocore outfit that, by times, sounds bittersweet while still holding on the rough edges. They're picking from both the emocore / screamo side as well as the more gentle emo/indie stuff. All played with a rough post hardcore feeling to it.

"Dream Amplifiers" is definitely my favorite track on here. The lyrics are filled with positive energy and acknowledge an idealistic view on life. I confess that this song was programmed on repeat mutiple times. This is the song where the bittersweet melodies come in and desperate elements give the song a deeper feel. "Ropewalk Adventures" is a harder song, closer to that post hardcore feel I already mentioned. Analena differs from song to song and they mix up a couple of styles in their very own way. Not bad at all, by times even very good.

Not sure if Analena has some Lunar members in it. But there should definitely be a Lunar connection somewhere, apart from their mutual hometown. If you're into the other records Moonlee has been releasing lately, this is definitely worth checking out. Analena stands for female fronted emocore, with a rough mix of the hard, the sweet and the bittersweet sides of life. It appeared to me that I'm mostly playing this disc on Sunday mornings. And it can make my day.

Ich verbrachte meinen letzten Sommerurlaub in Kroatien. Ein schönes Land das voller Gegensätze ist. Einerseits gibt es dort moderne Städte die sich nur in Feinheiten von deutschen Städten unterscheiden aber dennoch ihre eigene Identität haben. Andererseits sind die Narben des Krieges vielerorts noch deutlich zu erkennen. Eine Umgebung die für Künstler sehr inspirierend sein kann. Aus diesem Land, genauer aus Zagreb, stammen auch Analena. Die Band besteht seit 1997 und "Carbon Based" ist ihr zweites Album. Die Band die ihre Wurzeln im Punk sieht, hat über die Jahre zu einem sehr eigenen Sound gefunden. Einerseits roh und direkt, anderseits verspielt und poetisch. Das Ganze ist recht spannend aufgebaut. Dissonanzen treffen auf verträumte Melodien, der weibliche Gesang ist mal rotzig mal aggressiv und dann wieder fast apathisch. Die Band ist dabei absolut eigenständig. Wer auf Bands wie At The Drive-In oder Trail Of Dead steht könnte hier dran Spaß haben. Coole Band. (rg)

Analena (dal sanscrito: "come/dal fuoco") è un gruppo transnazionale composto da individui provenienti sia dalla Croazia sia della Slovenia attivo fin dal 1997. In carniere hanno già un full lenght e uno split con i Sensual Love, e adesso escono con un album di cui si cominciava a sentire la mancanza.

Capiamoci: "Carbon Based" non è un capolavoro assoluto, però in esso i Nostri uniscono irreprensibilmente la melodia del primitivo emocore con l'intensità dei gruppi screamo della Level-Plane (insomma, non pensate a The Used e From First To Last, vi prego!), mettendo a punto uno stile parecchio personale. Non, quindi, il solito "emo" moderno levigato ed iper-prodotto, piuttosto un suono sporco, denso, rumoroso, tagliente, istintivo, ma capace di trasportare l'ascoltatore come pochi altri al momento sono in grado di fare. Da evidenziare la prova della brava lead singer Ana.

Gli Analena con questo buonissimo cd hanno fatto, più che altro, un grosso investimento per il futuro: sono certo, infatti, che la loro prossima fatica farà restare più di qualcuno a bocca aperta.

Nakon sedam godina postojanja zagrebačko-novogoriška grupa ANALENA je objavila svoj prvi dugosvirajući album. Nakon samo prvog preslušavanja možemo reći sjajno. Do sada nisam čuo grupu sa prostora ex-yu koja me je oduševila na samo prvo slušanje (donekle Sexa sa albumom "No Sleep Till Pussy"). Ne vjerujem da ćete i pomisliti da grupa svojim najvećim dijelom dolazi iz Hrvatske s obzirom da sa svojim albumom "Carbon Based" koji je objavljen za izdavački kuću Moonlee Records može stati rame uz rame sa najboljim noise bandovima svijeta. Zaista, bez pretjerivanja. U medijima album dobija same pohvale i izvrsne ocijene. ANALENA je do danas ostala privržena svojim idejama, stilu i filozofiji koju je na kraju krunisala ovim odličnim albumom. Za grupu koja ima faktički veteranski staž i band koji je kroz sve godine postojanja prošao veliki broj evropskih zemalja i imao mnoštvo nastupa ovaj album je došao kao album sazrijevanja gdje je ANALENA u potpunosti pokazala da je grupa koja zna šta želi i kako to da prezentuje. Na albumu se nalazi 10 fantastičnih noise pjesama. Album otvara "Carbon Based Organisms" koja od prvih gitarskih rifova odmah udara u glavu gdje krišteći vokal Ane Franjić zaista čini nešto što ja zaista nisam u stanju baš najbolje objasniti. Jednostavno muzika vas u potpunosti obuzima i polako cijepa dio po dio čineći jedan osječaj koji svakako može da utiće na vaše u budučnosti poimanje stvarnosti. Poigravanje za zvučnim kanalima, odlična produkcija i tekstovi koji vas obaraju sa nogu su osobenost albuma grupe ANALENA. Na novom albumu uvode dvije gitare pa im zvuk postaje znatno puniji, žešći i razorniji. Doveden je do savršenstva. Mijin i Miranov zvuk gitare se upotpunjuju i čine izvrstan sklad koji funkcioniše besprijekorno. Sasvim se jasno na albumu "Carbon Based" osjeti velika angažovanost, veliki trud koji se isplati i koji je na kraju dao i rezultat. Dobili smo album koji je teško prestati slušati. Album "Carbon Based" nije album za široke narodne mase jer je izrazito sirov, oštar i ne pun već prepun gitarske energije i napona. Vokali su izvrsno izprepletni sa instrumenatlnim dijelovima gdje Ana Franjić pjeva i vrišti istovremno sa jednom nadnaravnom snagom i ljepotom. Album zatvara numera "Rainy Night in Warsaw" koja nas u laganom tempu budi iz košmara zvanog ANALENA. Ovaj turobni, žestoki i močan album svakako treba imati, a sigurno spada i među tri najbolja albuma koja sam preslušao u protekloj godini.

Analena se već sedam godina vješto izmiče čvršćoj stilskoj kategorizaciji, a u glazbi tog benda, na čelu s izrazito energičnom pjevačicom Anom, zamjetni su noise-rock utjecaji u rasponu od Sonic Youth do Silverfish, ali i hardcore punk etos te gorko-slatke pop melodije koje se uspijevaju probiti na površinu kroz guste slojeve bučnih gitara i furiozne nalete ritam sekcije. Strastvena svirka, uz vješto postignut balans gitarske buke i melodija, najveći je adut već prilično iskusne Analene.

It's very rare that a punk/hardcore band comes out of a country like Croatia and doesn't sound like a war-torn, crusty blast of indecipherable rage and chaos. Which is cool too, but that's not what Analena is all about. Instead this female-led quintet delivers a rhythmic sort of emo-hardcore that brings back warm memories of timeless bands like Shotmaker, Portraits of Past, and maybe even early Sunny Day Real Estate in some of the lilting melodies. The clincher is the otherworldly vocal performance of Ana; her vocals are so raw and endearing you just want to reach through the speakers and give her a big hug. And I mean that in the most innocent way possible. Call my ears cynical, weary, and aged, but I'm just not used to an unknown band from overseas on a small label blowing me away like this. Even the album artwork had me thinking this would be yet another band that can be withstood for a song or two, then would pull us into those familiar demo quality doldrums. Not the case here at all, as Carbon Based is a fully realized album that should perk up the ears of anyone looking for a band with integrity and the chops to back it up. Wow, I'm surprised... stunned, actually. Analena are so good!

V oddaji Tolpa bumov danes predstavljamo hrvaško zasedbo ANALENA z njihovim novim in prvim dolgometražcem pomimenovanim CARBON BASED, ki je po neštetih preložitvah naposled le izšel lani novembra in si tako prislužil laskavi naslov med določenimi krogi najbolj pričakovanega albuma, verjetno ne samo na hrvaškem in bljižni okolici, temveč tudi širom Evrope. ANALENA namreč niso še eden zapečkarski podalpski bend, ampak so za svojo prepoznavnost trdo delali že od samega začetka, odigrali veliko majhnih koncertov, nekajkrat preturali Evropo ter so s svojo vztrajnostjo in iskrenostjo lahko za vzgled številnim mladim bendom. Kljub vsemu pa ANALENA ne kažejo ambicij po preboju na mainstream glasbeno sceno in tako ostajajo zavezani DIY načelom, s čimer so ohranili priljubljenost in spoštovanje tudi v underground krogih.

Je bilo torej vredno čakati in izgubljati živce nad nenehnim prelaganjem izida albuma CARBON BASED? Odgovor je vsekakor pritrdilen, saj ob poslušanju pričujočega izdelka vidimo kam je šla vsa energija, ki se je ta leta od izida zadnjega split CD-ja nabirala v glavah in srcih članov benda. Album namreč postreže z desetimi glasbeno dozorelimi komadi v katerih se prepletajo čudovite melanholične, na trenutke udarne melodije, nojzovski kitarski prijemi, nezmotljivo bobnanje razgibanih ritmov, do podtankosti izdelano prepletanje dveh kitar, vse skupaj pa zaokroženo s petjem oz. kričanjem karizmatične vokalistke, ki jo poredkoma v ozadju podprejo tudi backvokali. Stilsko se tako ANALENA niso dosti oddaljili od svoje stare oblike, le da so jo zdaj še dodobra definirali ter ji vdihnili ščepec melodičnosti in dinamike. V svojem zvoku torej ohranjajo duh "scream ema" devedesetih ter najrazličnejših post rockovskih stvaritev. Na albumu se tudi prvič pojavi drugi kitarist, ki se je odlično zlil z bendom in mu tako dodal polnost, ki je na prejšnjih izdajah nismo bili deležni.

Opazna ter dobrodošla novost pa je tudi produkcija, ki je tokrat skorajda popolna. Snemanje je potekalo v zagrebškem studiu KOZMO, kjer so Analena kar sami s pomočjo članov prijateljskega benda LUNAR prišli do odličnih rezultatov. CARBON BASED je izšel kot prva izdaja novonastale založbe MOONLEE RECORDS, ki sta jo ustanovila kar člana ANALENE, Miran in Six. Založba naj bi bila odgovor na apatično držo lokalne in tudi širše inovativne emocore in postrock scene, v katero je zapadla v zadnjih letih. Upajmo, da bo poslanstvo uspešno.

In za konec. CARBON BASED je strasten izliv čustev v obliki zapeljive glasbe, ki so jo stilsko zapakirali, gojili in tudi vzgojili sami mojstri tovrstnega žanra in je tudi album, ki ga je bend, kot je ANALENA, potreboval pri naskoku na sam vrh evropskega emocora.

Dai paesi dell’est europeo come Slovenia, Serbia e Repubblica Ceca di band interessanti ne escono in continuazione. Lo sanno bene i vari appassionati in campo post punk e affini, genere sempre più in voga in ambito indie. Dal pacchetto promozionale della giovane etichetta Slovena Moonlee Records, tiro fuori questi Analena, ed è stato subito colpo di fulmine. In giro da più di 7 anni, non li avevo mai sentiti nominare, eppure il loro prodotto si può accusare di tutto, tranne di non essere originale. Ebbene sì, è aria "fresca fresca" per le mie orecchie. Le influenze dei vari componenti della band sono senza dubbio tra le più disperate, ma si riescono a congiungere in un sound complesso ma omogeneo e facilmente congiungibile allo screamo. La voce femminile assume toni tra i più disparati: dallo screaming straziante al cantato, incontrando una base ritmica distorta e aggressiva. Non immaginatevi tempi schizzati e veloci alla Blood Brothers o Circle Takes The Square, infatti, per quanto le sonorità non si distacchino particolarmente dalle band sopracitate, gli Analena giocano su un forte impatto sonoro e melodie orecchiabili in tutta la loro complessità. Il tutto è avvolto da una vena pseudo poetica dei testi ed un attitudine caratteristica più da "artist band" che da rock band.

I really don't listen many melodic bands nowadays, so i don't fuckin' know how it goes that i can blow away croatian band. Maybe that's because i saw them a few times on live, maybe because i know'em a little, maybe because they're nice and fine people... Anyway, their records really moves with blood in my body and i really like it so much. I have no extra comments, this that's excellent record and excelent band. If you don't know ANALENA, try to imagine perfectly played, rockin', sweat and melancholic emo with female voice, with great rhythms and melodies. This is really not fast, but it's unbelievable moody and high-energic stuff. I can't help to myself with fallin' in love with bands from this part of Europe, and my main feeling with ANALENA is, they 100% know what they wanna play and they do it with heart. This album includes 10 new songs, i'm sure they won't makes you boring and such bands as ANALENA has my fuckin' respect! (Machetazo)

Già nelle nostre orecchie grazie al precedente split con i Sensual Love su Interstellar / Get Off, i croati Analena ritornano a far parlare di sè con questa nuova creatura (tra l’ altro prima uscita assoluta della Slovena Moonlee Records) “Carbon Based”: full-length di 10 brani tra screamo, emo-rock, parti urlate, suoni ascendenti e liriche in inglese con Ana, figura femminile, alla voce. Una voce calda, capace di intervallare senza troppi problemi violenti scream a parti più melodiche e rock. “Carbon Based” è il secondo full-length ufficiale della band di Zagabria, un album in cui la maturità compositiva della band si percepisce e viene resa apprezzabile grazie alla buona registrazione che accompagna il disco, alle ottime parti strumentali e a certe sonorità, qua e là, piuttosto originali e studiate (la chitarra ha il merito d’ esser lo strumento con più originalità e passione, cadenzata, esasperata e sudata dall’ inizio alla fine non sbaglia un colpo). La sezione ritmica accompagna senza mai esagerare e segue il resto degli strumenti fungendo da puro sottofondo e niente più… le liriche sono puri slogan di libertà e non violenza, poetiche e profonde sono un punto a favore della band. Una band che in sostanza non rivoluziona assolutamente nulla, ma che ha la certezza di aver conseguito con caparbietà e passione la realizzazione di un disco di ottimo calibro, studiato e composto per chi screamo e emo-rock sono divenuti sinonimi di buona musica e non ha voglia di soffermarsi sempre (e solo) davanti ai soliti tre, quattro grandi gruppi... i complimenti più sentiti alla neo-label slovena Moonlee Records e ai croati Analena. Se lo meritano, eccome.

Najbolji materijal Analene. Ikad. Evo, tako kratak bih mogao biti što se tiče ocjene novog albuma zagrebačkog noise/core banda Analena. Sad, vjerovali mi vi, ili ne. Moram priznati da sam ga nabrzinu jednom preslušao još prije skoro 4 tjedna na "sprženom" CD-u. Sve vrijeme nakon toga, dok je dotični materijal ležao na mojoj polici (i dok mi Six nije dao original) nisam ga studioznije preslušao. Posljednjih 5 dana zavrtio sam ga već dovoljno puta da mogu sa sigurnošću tvrditi da se radi o najboljem materijalu Analene. I najboljem načinu da se započne katalog nove etikete, Moonlee Records (koja je, by the way, u vlasništvu Mirana i Six-a iz Analene, dugogodišnjih "kumova nezavisne scene", ako mi ne zamjere na pretencioznosti).

I bez ove moje tvrdnje, znam kako će "Carbon-Based" pokupiti ogroman broj najpozitivnijih kritika po raznoraznim medijima, što i zaslužuje, zato jer je dobro snimljen, odlično isproduciran (najbolje do sada, bez suvišne ispoliranosti), i najbolje grafički oblikovan (sjajne ilustracije Dunje Janković, podsjećaju me na mnoge Varove covere No Idea Records izdanja). Da ne govorim o pjesmama, koje su (za razliku od veće melodioznosti na prethodnom split-u "It's Never Too Late To Plit Up" s austrijskim bandom Sensual Love) puno žešće, kompleksnije i inovativnije. Ana pokazuje sve svoje vrištačke potencijale, Mijo i Miran se sjajno nadopunjavaju na gitarama, Sixove bas linije jedan čas potmulo naslućuju nevrijeme, drugi čas grme, a Zet je - Zet. Oni koji su bar jednom prisustvovali Analeninom live nastupu, znaju o čemu pričam. Bilo kako bilo, čak i da niste pobornik žanra, ime Analena trebalo bi vam nešto značiti, zbog svoje neprekinute angažiranosti posljednjih nekoliko godina, ozbiljnog pristupa svemu što rade, kao i zbog upuhivanja - u svakom slučaju - drugačijih vjetrova u učmalost hrvatske nezavisne scene.

Končno smo dočakali! Drugi samostojni izdelek zagrebško-novogoriške naveze Analena, ki je zagotovo njihova najboljša studijska stvaritev do sedaj. Razlika je predvsem v brezhibni produkciji albuma. Glasba sama se v bistvu niti ni kaj dosti spreminjala in je še vedno žanrsko neopredeljiva. Običajne oznake v stilu "emo-core" so že zdavnaj prerasli in so tukaj čisto nepotrebne. Seveda so vidne punk-rockerske korenine, kar pa za skupino sploh ni nobena omejitev, da se ne bi premaknili v kakšne bolj post-rock, noise ali celo pop vode. Tudi skladbe same so bolj dinamične kot kdarkoli prej, kar pa brez dvoma ne bi bilo mogoče brez enkratnega vokala njihove pevke Ane, ki se z neverjetno lahkotnostjo zliva z inštrumentalno strukturo pesmi v neločljivo celoto. Pa naj bo to nežno, melanholično in umirjeno petje ali pa njen značilno kričeč vokal. Definitivno lahko rečemo, da je njen vokal poleg spogledljivih melodij in množice razgaljenih emocij, kar nekakšen zaščitni znak skupine. Neverjetna koncertna kilometrina in dolgoletne izkušnje na sceni botrujejo tudi njihovi uigranosti na albumu in neomajnemu smislu za ritem in melodijo. Skladbe oddajajo takšno toplino in pozitivno energijo, da te lahko brez problema za vedno posrkajo vase. Pa tudi emocije, ki jih izražajo v tekstih so nadvse pristne, v kar smo se lahko prepričali tudi na njihovih koncertih, ki so vsakič posebno doživetje. Drugače so njihovi teksti kot vedno zelo osebni, zasanjani, po drugi strani pa delujejo tudi precej abstraktno, saj nam puščajo odprtih nešteto možnih interpretacij in razlag. Torej je odvisno od nas samih, kam nas bodo naše misli popeljale. Kakor je Ana enkrat že lepo povedala: "Nočemo sprožati neke revolucije, najprej mora revolucijo narediti narediti vsak sam pri sebi.".

Kar nekaj izmed desetih skladb na tem albumu ima potencijal, da postanejo hiti. Že ob prvem poslušanjo ne moremo mimo udarnih "Work In Progress", "Carbon Based Organisms" ali "Split Milk", katerih melodije nam zavedno ustavijo v naših ušesih. Album pa zaključuje akustični inštrumental "Rainy Night In Warsaw", kjer si pomagajo tudi z nekaterimi sampli, kar predstavlja skupino v dosedaj še nepoznani luči.

Vsekakor gre za odličen izdelek zrelega benda, ki nikakor ni počival na lovorikah, ampak je svojo glasbo popeljal na višji nivo, ji skozi leta dodajal vedno nove komponente in še vedno ostal prepoznaven. V teh prostorih daleč naokoli brez konkurence, čeprav kakšna primerjava s prekmurskimi Psycho-Path niti ne bi bila tako napačna, a bi bendu prej škodovala kot pa koristila. Kakorkoli že, s tem albumom njihov čas definitivno šele prihaja.

Tukaj imam najbolj vročo zadevo v zadnjem času. Zgoščenko, na katero smo zadnje leto (ali še kaj več) vsi nestrpno čakali. To, da so Analena v živo zakon itak vsi vemo, ne morem pa trditi, da sem bil najbolj zadovoljen z njihovimi starejšimi izdelki. Preprosto, ni bilo zajete prave energije in šusa po čemer so bili zaznamovani s svojimi živimi nastopi. Tokrat je drugače, kajti ''Carbon based'' ne prinaša le tistega kar sem pričakoval, pač pa tudi tisto, kar sem si od vedno želel. Kvaliteten full-length album, ki bo spopulariziral bend ne le na že osvojeni domači in sosednji sceni, ampak tudi na kakšnem bolj oddaljenem kosu sveta. No ja, za njihovo prepoznavnost se nam nikakor ni treba bati, saj peterka stalno igra in tura, kar je iz te zgoščenke tudi lepo razvidno. Uigranost in izkušenost, kot pri starih hardcore mačkih. Glasba? Emocore na nepocukran način, kjer takoj občutiš mladost, iskrenost in ljubezen do tega kar delajo. Sila melodična in privlačna stvar, ki združuje raznolike punk in rock prvine skozi emocionalno, udarno in zasanjano glasbo. Naj si bo punkrokersko drvenje ali omamno postrokersko zapeljevanje, Anino značilno petje s kričanjem se vedno prileže. Pravi vrhunec dosežejo, ko se kričanje pokriva s petjem in se usipajo kitarske melodije v objemu drvečih tempov bobnarja. Vse skupaj malce spomni na Monochrome. Besedila so kratka, domiselna in osebna, kot dogodivščina iz življenja ali pogled na določeno stvar. Odlično! Pravljični ovitek sicer ni najbolj privlačna zadeva, ampak naj vas to ne zavede. S tem izdelkom so Analena dokazali, da so eden boljših bendov tovrstnega žanra, vsaj kar se Evrope tiče!

Priča o hrvatsko-slovenskome bendu Analena sve više počinje nalikovati, barem onima koji su upućeniji u nju, na poučnu parabolu sa sretnim završetkom. Priča je to, naime, koja počinje još tamo sredinom prošloga desetljeća, u okolnostima poslijeratne Hrvatske i u vrijeme mukotrpnoga stvaranja nečega što bi mogli nazvati "alternativnom rock scenom".

Pokušati nabrojiti imena svih onih obećavajućih i kvalitetnih bendova koji su "izgorili" u jurišanjima na vjetrenjače kaosa kulturološke i ostalih tranzicija, ostavljajući iza sebe tek ugodna sjećanja na izvrsne koncerte, tu i tamo poneki relevantan zvučni zapis, premučan je posao kojeg ćemo ovaj put izbjeći. Analena je tijekom sedam godina svojega postojanja ostala uporno odana svojim idealima, a njihov pristup vlastitoj glazbi nije izgubio ništa od prvotne zaigranosti i entuzijazma.

Sada se čini kako je došlo vrijeme za ubiranje plodova postojanosti na napornome, ali jedinome ispravnom putu ustrajnosti na vlastitoj viziji. "Carbon Based" najbolji je dokaz tome. Riječju, zaslužili smo ovakav bend. Deset pjesama s ovoga CD-a, njihovog prvog samostalnog dugosvirajućeg projekta, prikazuju Analenu kao izgrađen punk-rock band koji spontano i žanrovski neopterećeno stvara svoj jedinstveni i originalni zvuk i poetiku. Zbog ove spontanosti i mogu poentirati jednako uspješno u pop-punk pjesmama poput "Work in Progress" ili "Spilt Milk" kao i u melankoličnome noiseu kakav možemo čuti u "Notturno", "Ropewalk Adventures" ili "From Automatic to Manual".

Mijin i Miranov gitaristički zvučni zid svojom maštovitošću i kvalitetom definitivno postavlja nove standarde na hrvatskoj underground sceni, a vokal Ane Franjić i njegov koncept emocionalnih obrata po principu tiho-glasno/sladunjavo-agresivno zvuči uvjerljivije nego ikada. Dodamo li tome preciznu Sixovu i Zetovu ritam sekciju (na momente pomalo shellacovski rastrganu) te raskošnu produkciju koja je dobro prenijela Analeninin zvuk, zaokružen je dojam o "Carbon Based" kao o dokumentu zrelosti jednoga benda čiji je razvoj dosegao kvalitativne visine s kojim se malo glazbenika s ovih prostora može nositi. I to ne samo onih sa "alternativne" scene, nego i šire. Poslušajte samo monumentalnu uvodnu "Carbon Based Organisms", gdje svi navedeni zaštitni znakovi Analenina izričaja funkcioniraju besprijekorno i puno toga će vam biti jasnije.

Njihovi koncertni nastupi posebna su priča i svi oni koji su ih gledali znaju kakvom snažnom katarzom i emocionalnošću oni zrače. Ovaj bend je na stageu iskren i radostan, od svojih nastupa stvara autentične proslave duha i ljepote glazbe. Čitava gomila koncerata odsviranih po nekoliko europskih zemalja ujedno potvrđuje Analenu i kao umjetnički proizvod koji nas, preduhitrivši većinu hrvatskih kulturnjaka, bez ikakva kompleksa i prenemaganja već odavno prezentira na tome dijelu europske kulturne scene.

Sada, osim reputacije kvalitetnoga "živoga" benda koji glavnu svrhu svojega postojanja vidi u što učestalijem sviranju, Analena nam, evo, može ponuditi i kvalitetan i zaokružen studijski uradak, postajući kompletan bend čija percepcija i "uspjeh" sada ovisi samo o otvorenosti slušatelja. Međutim u zemlji gdje je sve, pa i kreativno izražavanje, dovedeno u položaj ovisnosti o trenutačnim konstelacijama raznoraznih interesnih skupina i lobija, postoji sasvim izvjesna mogućnost da nešto ovako važno prođe nezapaženo. Nije važno, jer, kao što se lijepo kaže u pjesmi "Dream Amplifiers" - možete iskusiti Analenin pojačivač snova, nakon toga izbrojati u sebi do deset i sve vaše želje će se ispuniti. Barem one koje su vrijedne ispunjenja.

No pa so spet tu, Analena, najbolj zala lepotica izpod balkanskega sonca. Tokrat na novi založbi, ki jo je pred parimi meseci lansiral oče Miran. no o založbi boste zagotovo še dosti slišali, saj ima trenutno privzete 3 cool bande, o katerih bo tudi še dosti govora tudi v kotčku za recenzije.

Stila niso nič kaj dosti spremenili, viden pa je napredek pesmi, ki so vedno boljše. Ne, da je bilo z prejšnjimi izdajami kaj narobe, vendar mislim, da držim pred sabo najboljši izdelek Analene do tega datuma. Stilsko so še vedno nekje vmes med različnimi žanri, ki jih vnaša v ta mavrični opus vsak član zasedbe posebej. Glasbeni spekter barv od punk do skoraj kakih post rockerskih melodij. Vsekakor nekaj kar ne vem s kom bi primerjal saj te energije in ognja, ki gori v njihovi glasbi ni uspelo pričarati še nikomur. Kak zunanji opazovalec bi temu rekel emocore ali emo ali nekaj tretjega sam pa mislilm, da je to preveč neumna in preozka oznaka. V bistvu, ko se gre za analeno najraje preskočim oznake. Analena so band, ki bi bili lahko všeč tako nekomu, ki je v sceni 10 let in je navajen vsega hudega kot tudi nekomu, ki mu bo pričujoči plošček prva hardcore plata. Primerno za vse ljudi vseh starosti, ki imajo radi pozitivne reči polne topline. Sorry, tokrat nobenih breakdownov in nasilja. Še vedno pa strast in ogenj.

Ta toplina in pozitivnost se vidi tudi v besedilih. še vedno lepa spevna besedila, ki te začarajo in ovijejo s šalom, da ti je še dolgo toplo. Prav lahko bi jih brali malim otrokom pred spanjem.

Še najslabša reč na plošči je ovitek, ki mi nekako ne potegne. Ne, da ne maram klasične umetnosti kot so risanje in slikanje vendar mi cover in booklet enostavno nista všeč. Sicer so uporabljeni topli kontrasti, ki dosti sovpadajo s tem kaj Analena so, vendar mi še vedno ni všeč. Več sreče prihodnjič, Zoran.

Analena pač nadaljujejo svojo pot in nadaljujejo jo dobro. Ko se bodo naslednjič oglasili na kakem touru v Sloveniji bo brez dvoma polno ljudi in mislilm, da si band zasluži veliko pozornost. Kaj veš, mogoče jih naslednje leto re-release Level Plane :P...

Protagonist "Notturno", krasnog komada melodične buke smještenog na polovicu ovog albuma, na pitanje o tome "koliko je duboka ova noć" odgovara sa ohrabrujućim imperativom: "Ne gledaj dolje. Skoči. Ostavi svoje strahove iza sebe.". Našijenci Analena se na svom drugom pravom albumu ponašaju upravo prema uputstvu iz svojih stihova: vratolomno i strastveno, pa je i sama izvedba svojim intenzitetom na granici rasprsnuća. Prava "avantura hodanja po žici". Uglavnom, obuhvatiti srce ovog albuma je zahtjevan posao.

Analena su ime sa za naše prilike gotovo veteranskim stažom; band koji je kroz ove silne godine pod sobom osjetio daske desetina pozornica u zemlji i inozemstvu. Sa stabilnom i konsolidiranom postavom, te ohrabren akumuliranim iskustvom, band je snimio svoju veliku PLOČU. Neovisno iz kojeg aspekta promatrate/slušate "Carbon Based", osjetit ćete kako sve funkcionira besprijekorno. Analena su tako svoju viziju pažljivo projicirali kroz primjereno masivan i "hrskav" no ne i ispoliran zvuk, fine poetske opaske ("Paved with good intentions, still the world is grey. We need dream amplifiers to make it louder.") i najvažnije- uvjerljive, sjajne pjesme koje će vas zaljepiti uz zid. Uz svaki break, Anin "iscrpljeni" vrisak ili toplu buku isprepletenih gitara u briljantnim "Work In Progress", "Spilt Milk" ili "From Automatic To Manual", postaje jasno kako na toj izmučenoj i prenapučenoj zemlji na tromeđi popa, punka i noisea kojom se Analena kreće još ima plodnog tla. Naravno, nije ga lako pronaći i treba se dobro pomučiti. Pjesme na ovom albumu zvuče upravo kao plod velikog truda, entuzijazma i angažmana: istovremeno promišljeno i kompleksno s jedne, te jednostavno i gotovo tradicionalno s druge strane. Količina energije i vreline na ovom albumu je impresivna i ide do točke zasićenja, te su baš zato akustične gitare i smiraj završne "Rainy Night In Warsaw" potrebni da nakon više od pola sata uzmete zraka i dođete k sebi.

"Carbon Based" je izvanserijski punk rock album i moćan istup odlučnog, samouvjerenog banda. Osim toga, on je i visoko postavljena letvica standarda za svaki band sličnog izraza, neovisno o zemljopisnim širinama njegovog staništa.

Nový titul od chorvatské pětice Analena nese tajemný, leč vše odkrývající název Carbon based. Tihle čtyři kluci a jedna holka jsou u nás poměrně hodně známý díky častému koncertování v Čechách a také se objevili tento rok na Fluffestu…takže příznivcům téhle party vydání tohohle cd zajisté neuniklo…velmi dobře si vzpomínám na jeden z jejich prvních koncertů v Čechách (ne-li vůbec první), všichni byli nadšení, všude to šeptalo, všichni tančili…tehdy měla Analena venku své první cd…no a po pár letech držím jejich další full album a tak trochu se mi vrací pocity…takže pojďme na to, teď je ta vhodná příležitost… Analena pro mě vždycky byla kapela, která to chce říct od srdce, aniž by mě nějak zvlášť chytla jejich hudba, tak jsem jim to prostě věřil a to se nezměnilo!!! Tak, v prvé řadě je tahle deska plná nádherný muziky, nesnáším výraz emo (jako termín pro hudební styl), ale tady se mi to nějak dere do úst…a taky velká inspirace francouzskýma kapelama devadesátých let…víc než kdy předtím, víc než na předchozích deskách…hodně slyším staré dobré Fingerprint…a hodně cítím hippie, svobodu…nevím, působí to tak na mě…lehounký kytary, i v těch smutných a naléhavých písních jsou jemný, zpěv holky, která umí i zařvat, když o něco jde a díky jejímu hlasu si tuhle kapelu nespletete…punk rockový bicí…to je možná to, co hudbu Analeny hodí jinam od těch francouzskejch kapel…texty jsou hodně vnitřní a přírodní záležitost, řekl bych…občas by si měl každej sáhnout na srdce, a tohle cd je zaručenej recept jak na to!!!

Na novom albumu se nalazi 10 genijalnih emo pjesama, mislim da je album u cjelini malo melodičnije nego ostali albumi, ali ne nedostaje Aninog vrištanja… trebali su je malo rasrditi prije snimanja da se razvrišti:-)

Ritmične pjesme, ukomponirane odličnim izmjenama pjevačkih i instrumental dijelova sa iskrenim i maštovitim tekstovima u analeninom stilu zadovoljit će svakog emo ljubitelja koji neće žaliti niti jedne kune uložene u kupnju albuma. Ionako nemojte zaboraviti da svakom kupnjom nekog artikla od manjih underground distribucija i sami potičete razvoj scene. U svakom slučaju Analena je još jednom pokazala da teži sve kvalitetnijoj svirci te zašto nose epitet ponajboljeg emo-core banda u ovom dijelu Europe, ali mislim da ćemo ubrzo govorit i o puno većim razmjerima, jer sama njihova pojava na Moonlee Recordsu omogućit će im da "pokore još neotkrivene teritorije" jer Mr.Moonlee teži što kvalitetnijoj promociji svoje "djece", a njegova suradnja sa velikim brojem stranih izdavačkih kuća i distribucija omogućit će distribuciju Analeninog izdanja u većini Europskih zemalja, SAD-u…

Pred nedavnim je ta založba založila dva zanimiva albuma. Skoraj legendarna emo zasedba Analena se je razveselila svojega drugega albuma z naslovom Carbon Based. Izdelek ponuja deset pesmi, ki so nabite z iskrenostjo, strastjo in energijo. Skupina, ki v evropskem podzemnem glasbenem prostoru velja za glasbeno atrakcijo, preigrava mešanico punka, ema in hardcora. Na čelu je ženski vokal, ki svoje mesto išče med mirnim petjem in kričanjem. Občasni spremljevalni moški vokali delujejo blagodejno. Ob poslušanju albuma, ki vrh doseže v pesmi Spilt milk, spoznamo, da sta osrednji vrlini skupine iskrenost in strast.
